Press Release: Strongwater Farm Announces Retirement of Beloved Lesson Horse, Cha Ching

Cha Ching and his new owner, Jennifer Boyd

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tewksbury, MA – March 20, 2024 – Strongwater Farm has made the difficult, but ultimately joyful decision to re-home their lovely and talented lesson horse, Cha Ching, who will be adopted by a long-time friend and volunteer of Strongwater.

Cha Ching, a 14.2HH Gypsy Vanner gelding, was initially awarded to Strongwater through a contest in 2014. Cha Ching has always been full of spirit, love, curiosity, and bravery. In his time with Strongwater, Strongwater staff and many volunteers knew Cha Ching was always dreaming of having his very own person to trust, love, and bond with. Although Cha Ching deeply loved serving Strongwater clients, his desire for his own human was too strong to ignore.

At the end of the month, Cha Ching will venture off to his new home with Jennifer Boyd, a Strongwater volunteer and supporter since 2022. Jen and Cha Ching are a truly perfect match. Cha Ching’s intuition and goofiness matched with Jen’s unworldly kindness and compassion make for an unbreakable bond destined for a journey of love, laughter, adventure, and healing.

Cha Ching will embark on this new chapter in his life with Jen on April 1st, 2024, where he will live out his days without a worry in the world in a quiet pasture with new friends that will soon be his lifelong buddies. Though a very difficult decision for the organization, retiring Cha Ching to his new, wonderful life is the very best way Strongwater can repay Cha Ching for all he has done for the Strongwater community over the years.

Strongwater Farm Welcomes Hope, the Newest Member of the Equine Healing Team

[Tewksbury, 7 December 2023] — Strongwater Farm, a leading therapeutic riding center, is excited to announce the latest addition to its esteemed herd, Hope. This 17hh paint draft cross mare joins us with a rich history and a promising future as a key participant in our veterans program.

Hope’s journey began when she was acquired from California with a clear mission – to pursue excellence in the Hunters discipline. She not only met but exceeded expectations, showcasing remarkable success during her career, marked by extensive travel and competitive achievements with her previous owner.

After a fulfilling chapter in the competitive arena, Hope has found her way to Strongwater Farm, settling into the tranquil landscapes of New England. As a 17hh paint draft cross, her majestic presence and gentle demeanor make her an ideal addition to our therapeutic programs.

A Fond Farewell and Happy Retirement

It is with a mix of gratitude and fond nostalgia that we announce the retirement of a beloved member of our therapeutic equine team, Luka. After almost a decade of devoted service, Luka will be trading in her role as a therapy horse for a well-deserved life of leisure.

Luka, a Percheron/Thoroughbred Cross, arrived at Strongwater Farm in October 2014, and since then, she has been an integral part of our equine therapy program. Her gentle nature and intuitive understanding of our participants have made her an exceptional companion in the journey toward healing and growth.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable mare, let’s take a moment to reflect on the legacy she leaves behind. Luka stands tall at 16.2 hands, a striking Fleabitten Grey with a presence that exudes both strength and grace. Weighing in at 1,200 lbs., she has been a sturdy and reliable partner in the therapeutic process.

Luka has spent a remarkable 26 years bringing comfort and joy to those she served, first in her family, then at Strongwater, and now she returns to her family. Her long and dedicated career as a therapy horse is a testament to her exceptional character, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of our community.

For those who have had the privilege of interacting with Luka, you know that she has her “do’s” and preferences. Pat her on her neck, shoulder, or between her ears, and you’ll feel the warmth of her appreciation. Luka has always shown a particular fondness for gentle hands during grooming and tacking, a preference that has endeared her to many.

As we embark on this transition for Luka, let us express our deepest gratitude for the years of service, compassion, and healing that she has provided. Her impact on the lives of our participants and the Strongwater Farm community as a whole is immeasurable.

Luka, may your retirement be filled with lush pastures, sunny days, and the serenity you so richly deserve. Thank you for being an extraordinary member of our equine therapy family. While we’ll miss your daily presence, your spirit will undoubtedly linger in the heart of Strongwater Farm.

Wishing you endless days of joy and relaxation in your well-earned retirement, dear Luka.

A small retirement party of family and friends who wish to bid farewell to Luka is being organized by our devoted Luka fan club, and those interested in participating should email [email protected] or [email protected]

October Updates at Strongwater

In a whirlwind October, Strongwater Farm Therapeutic Equestrian Center is excited to share significant developments and meaningful partnerships that have taken place. These updates underscore our commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS AND HEARTFELT ADDITION TO THE HERD:

Leading the exciting announcements is the generous contribution from S. Samantha M. Coursey, JD, an attorney with a passion for bringing hope to the community. Attorney Coursey’s substantial donation facilitated the arrival of Hope, a Paint/Draft cross, to our herd. Standing at an impressive 17 hands tall, Hope is capable of carrying our heavier riders on their journey to healing. Attorney Coursey’s dedication to protecting children and vulnerable adults aligns with our mission, and we eagerly anticipate introducing the community to Hope’s inspiring story.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND PARTNERSHIPS:

Early in October, Strongwater actively participated in the Disabilities Resource Fair hosted by the NE ARC. Recognizing Massachusetts’s wealth of resources for the disabled community, we aspire to collaborate with NE ARC in the future to amplify awareness of our therapeutic programs. Additionally, Strongwater engaged with Equine Assisted Services facility leaders in Bozeman and Charlotte, fostering the exchange of ideas around programs, fundraising, marketing, and outcome measurement.

GRATEFUL RECIPIENTS OF PROGRAM GRANTS AND SUPPORT:

Strongwater expresses immense gratitude for receiving program grants from the Tower Foundation ($15,000) and the Butler Foundation ($25,000). These grants empower us to extend our programs to more underserved youth and young adults, unlocking the healing power of equine-assisted services. The Westford Women’s Club’s generous donation for 10 potential client assessments further strengthens our ability to tailor services to individual needs.

FORGING STRATEGIC ALLIANCES:

During visits to Bozeman and Charlotte, our team engaged with various Equine Assisted Services facilities. These encounters led to strategic alliances with programs that complement our mission. As we continue to expand our reach, these alliances pave the way for potential collaborations and trades in the future.

🌟Turning the Tide with #RisingStrongwater2023: A Movement of Resilience and Hope🌊

Join Strongwater Farm as We Rise Above Challenges Together!

[Tewksbury, 13 September 2023] – In the face of challenges as daunting as rising waters, Strongwater Farm is

turning the tide and inviting the community to join them in a movement of resilience and hope. During the

August and September historic rainfall, Strongwater Farm experienced devastating flooding. Not only did their

grain and hay room become flooded, resulting in unusable hay, ruined grain, and a scramble to find sources for

enough dry and non-moldy hay for 15 horses, but the flood waters created deep channels in their walking

paths and paddocks. This damage has been ongoing, increasing slightly with every new onslaught of rain. Now

hurricanes threaten them with thousands more gallons of rain, but they are taking it all in stride.
